Hi All, I've got a 2010 X5 E70 that is having issues after replacing the front left bulb. (I thought it blew - seems it didnt) . I checked to see if the new bulb was faulty with the right side and all is OK there. The old bulb is actually working fine also. No matter what - the front left will not turn on. When the motor is turned on, it moves the low beam, which is what is called the Active Light System. The motor can fail due to high heat, water intrusion and trigger the active headlamp inoperative message. A short circuit can also cause the Active Light System to stop working. Check that 12-volt power is going to the headlight to power the motor.They advise having the problem diagnosed first, because it might not be the bulb. This will cost £120. The xenon bulb is not covered by my warranty. If the problem turns out to be the ballast, then this is covered by my warranty. And the diagnosis will be free.
